Illinois Basketball Season 2009-10

Posted on: August 4, 2009 12:37 pm
Illinois Basketball could have a bright season this year if all goes well. For the past years they have had success but things have got in the way like last year with Chester Frazier getting injured and missing the whole Big Ten and NCAA Tournament. And in the 2006-07 season Jamar Smith got a DUI and transfered. So lets talk future and forget the past. Two Senoirs and both will not be in the starting rotation. The Illini will be led by three Juniors excluding Alex Legion who transfered from Kentucky two years ago. The Illini will also add 4 Freshman D.J. Richardson, Brandon Paul, Joseph Bertrand, and Tyler Griffey. All of those Freshman should provide instant talent, also all of those 4 players were in top 150 for there recruiting class. Players like Forward Stan Simpson will get playing time this year as he is a Redshirt Freshman. This team could be the start for the Illini to be one of the best in the NCAA again. They have three Juniors leading the team this year and one of top recruiting classes in the nation. This team could be destine for greatness or they could be another Bruce Weber failure.

Illinois Basketball Season 2009-10

Why are you and it seems like a ton of other people so down on Bruce Weber?  It is true that he might not be the best recruiter in colllege basketball, but I'll take good coaching over recruiting any day of the week.  Sure, he hasn't had the talent the last few years, but I think he's gotten the most out of what he's ha.  It was only a matter of time before he finally got a good recruiting class; now their here, and looking pretty impressive.

I'd take great coaching, and a good all around guy over any one of the crooks of college basketball (Calapari, Patino, Huggins, Self, Floyd, Sampson).

I know the Illini haven't played much competition yet, but mark my words, they will be fun to watch, and they will pull off a couple upsets in the Big Ten!
